November 14, 2021 — Mosina*, 31, visits an IRC-supported health clinic with her children Zia* 6, and Seema*, for Seema’s* 5-month check up with the clinic’s midwife, Abida*.
Mosina*, 31, has eight children and lives in extreme poverty. She gave birth to 5-month-old Seema* at this clinic and is very happy with the services she received from the midwife and the doctors.
Mosina* and her husband are facing a serious economic crisis. They are only able to cook one meal per day, and they are very worried about what the coming winter will bring. The clinic continuously runs out of medicine. Mosina* says the doctors are good, and they should be supported. If the medicine can be provided, the community will be very happy. She also requests help for food for herself and the community, which is very poor and facing a particularly difficult time with the current economic and financial crisis.
"I gave birth to a baby. It was a good and normal delivery. I came here and they relieved my pains. They used massage and relieved my pains. They took better care of us. We are happy and grateful. We are delighted with the services. They have served and treated us so nicely, that I pray for them in my 5 times prayers. May Allah SWT (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) bless them, we are grateful.
"I gave birth [to my last child] at [another clinic]. My child died. They told me that the midwives have pushed too hard. We are poor people. I was worried about my pains. I did not know what problem will I face because, I could not afford private hospitals. When I came here, my labor pains began. They treated my pains so normally, and then I had a baby in my arms. I happily told my sister that I do not feel like I have just given birth. This was my best memory. I had my baby in my arms, and I could not believe that I would have given birth. I smilingly got out of the clinic. It is really a good memory in my life.
"[The midwife] was there when I came. I arrived at 11 am and they were there till 2:30 pm. I thank the doctors. We couldn't believe that I would give birth so easily, but when she was born, we were happy. The doctors cleaned and prepared our child. We are happy that they served us. May Allah SWT bless them. We are happy, so much happy.
"Our economic condition isn't good. But Allah SWT gave her to us. She is a child and has come to this world. It makes us happy and we celebrate it. She's a child and children are sweet. Parents love their children. She's our child. We love her. We are happy.
"A good mother is the one who keeps her children clean, feeds them on time. A good mother takes care of her children, and instructs them towards good deeds. I wish that Allah SWT grant us peace to provide good children to the community who do good to the community and make us happy and proud. We must bring up good children to serve the community. But the problem is that there is no medicine. Most of the time we lack medicine. Attention needs to be paid to our clinic. Provide medicine to the clinic. There are more patients than doctors. Most of the people are poor and needy, therefore, they rush into the clinic. If the medicine is provided, we will be thankful.
"We are facing an economic crisis. [My husband] is a simple worker. There is no work every other day. He is a poor worker. Where he works one day & then for 20 days no work at all. We are facing a high financial crisis. But we are hoping for the future, if our sons get any opportunity. Otherwise, we will remain poor and unable to buy pens & notebooks for our children. But we still hope, hope Allah SWT will change it. Our children will get older, and they will support us, we hope so.
"Currently, we live the hardest life. Even we can't buy stationary for the kids. It is peaceful now, but our sole concern is that we're facing a famine. We have peace and a good life, but with not enough food & money. I mean, we have nothing.
"We're poor people. We didn't have any salary or income and now we do the same work. No major change in our life. We were poor in the past and are poor now too. [Our poverty] has reached the peak. We live in a bad financial condition. Even I don't have milk to feed Bibi Seema*. We're worried about wood. When the kids come from school, we ask them to take a bag to collect dried leaves or broken sticks or wasted papers and plastics. We don't have wood (fuel). Winter is on the way. We have kids and are unable to buy wood. What to do? If their father brings anything, I will cook it, otherwise, our only hope is Allah SWT.
"We can bake food for lunch or dinner, but not both at once. We have such problems. To be honest, we don't have anything, but still try to prepare something. Nowadays, we only cook one time a day. If we afford to bake something good, otherwise we eat bread and tea. Things are expensive and we can't have access to them. When we get oil for cooking we cannot find a pot for it and when the pot is available we cannot find oil. Sometimes we get [flour] through aid & grants from others; when people help poor people.
"My message is that please help our doctors with medicine. Most people in [our community] are poor. It will be the greatest help of yours if you could provide medicine for us. Thanks to the doctors, they prescribe us good medicine. We're happy from our doctors, and they should properly be supported. We will be grateful. Everyone is looking forward to the clinic."
